DETOUR No. 023: ‘No taproom. No problem.’ That’s what I told myself as I researched the Fort Point, Boston location of Trillium Brewing Company. After wandering in at opening, stacks and stacks of 4-packs were ready, and the back of the house was buzzing... I grabbed some cans to-go, then headed to the beer garden.

DETOUR No. 022: Two hours in line on a Saturday morning...to purchase beer. It’s basically the opposite of what beer drinking should be. Right? A two-hour wait for any beer is right inside my ‘see ya’ zone, but since I wouldn’t get back to Tree House Brewing Co. anytime soon, I opted to stay and see what all the fuss was about.

EVERETT, MA

As any fan of craft beer should look to do when traveling, a recent trip to Boston led me on a search for "whatever the locals drink." I quickly discovered a thriving Boston area beer scene—one that has many parallels with the one back home in Chicago. With many a brewery popping up around the city center, there was no shortage of options during my brief visit—a stark contrast to a previous visit several years ago. Throughout my own research and the many suggestions received through social media, Night Shift Brewing in nearby Everett was a consistent theme.
