The Hop Review is giving away two VIP passes to Deschutes Street Pub in Chicago's Logan Square this Saturday, August 6 from 2-10 PM. We had a great time at last year's event and this year's promises to be bigger, and in a much more crowd appropriate space on Milwaukee Avenue, near the Logan Square Blue Line stop.

While that statement contradicts every beer commercial on television for the last 40 years, there is art and craftsmanship in cask or 'real' beer. Cask beer can also be very delicate and temperamental, therefore it should only be handled by someone with experience and passion for the unadulterated ale. That someone in this case is Elliott Beier of Logan Square's Owen & Engine. As one of the earliest Certified Cicerones, Elliott maintains one of the best cask beer programs in the country. We sat down for beers and to discuss his role in one of Chicago's upcoming Bixi Brewery.

Several years in the making, Hopewell Brewing Company is Chicago's newest brewery you've likely never heard of. Having existed as a brand for the better part of 4 years, this shiny brewery-to-be on Milwaukee Avenue is finally moving along, and quickly. For co-founders Samantha Lee and Stephen Bossu, this venture is a homecoming of sorts. After years of living around the US, they are finally back to their hometown of Chicago to team back up with third partner/founder, Jonathan Fritz. The three met at the University of Illinois, and bonded over homebrewing and one massive summer cross-country camping trip.
