The Hop Reviews Vol. 06: A Monthly Beer Review

CHICAGO, IL

We drink a lot of beer here at The Hop Review. A lot of different beer, all the time. So, we found it only fitting that we share some of our thoughts on said beer, with The Hop Reviews. For November, we're sharing reviews of 18 beers that we think you should know a little more about, through our palate and with BJCP scoring in mind. Reach for some of these fall-forward November beers...

The Hop Review's "New-ish" Brewery Night at Northdown

LAKEVIEW, CHICAGO

We here at The Hop Review are incredibly excited to announce our first event! Join us Thursday, April 30th at 6pm at Northdown Cafe and Taproom as we highlight six of our favorite "New-ish" breweries to the Chicago beer scene.

We'll be pouring two drafts from the six featured breweries below; one flagship and one seasonal or rare release from each.

Brewer Chat: Adam & Ari of Mercenary Brewery & Distillery

Brewer Chat: Adam & Ari of Mercenary Brewery & Distillery

LOGAN SQUARE, CHICAGO

Depending on exactly who you ask, there are about 85 craft breweries and 18 craft distilleries in the state of Illinois. Until now, however, there have been exactly zero brewery/distillery combinations in the Land of Lincoln. That's somewhat surprising considering the success seen by other combo facilities like Michigan's New Holland Brewing and Oregon's Rogue Ales & Spirits.

That's all about to change as Mercenary Brewery & Distillery get's set to open in Chicago's Logan Square. Tucked down a side street just round the corner from fellow newcomers Ale Syndicate and Arcade Brewery, owners Ari Megalis and Adam Cieslak are hard at work on their soon-to-be combo facility. We stopped in during their buildout phase to find out more about the lifelong friend's history and their plan to bring the best of both worlds to the Windy City.
